Temperature Systems
It’s extremely important that medicines are stored below 25°C within a hospital/pharmacy environment, so no matter how hot it is outside, the products will be kept cool and at the desired temperature.
At QED Scientific, we have a range of temperature systems and solutions ideal for your needs, including:
controlled room temperature (CRT) medicine storage cabinets
controlled drugs (CD)-CRT cabinets
medicines (MED)-CRT cabinets
wire-free temperature monitoring systems
products (PR) pharmacy refrigerators
lead-lined fridge enclosures
Let’s take a look at each solution in turn:
CRT Medicine Storage Cabinets
Perfect for clinical trials, our CRT medicine storage cabinets are a cost-effective alternative to air-conditioning within a variety of medical environments, such as GP surgeries, hospital wards and clinics.
This award-winning cabinet offers the ideal room temperature storage (RTS) conditions for drugs, lotions, ointments and medicines, which are not kept refrigerated and labelled ‘store below 25°C’.
As the World Health Organisation has defined room temperature as between 15°C and 25°C, our CRT storage provides the ideal alternative to expensive air conditioning solutions. It helps to preserve the efficacy of these medicines and, by using both floor and bench CRT cabinets, you can eliminate medicine waste - which may arise from incorrect storage.
CRT cabinets are available in 10 capacities from 30 litres to 1390 litres, and they benefit from digital microprocessor controls – appropriate for use in a pharmacy – alarms and remote alarm contacts. Other features include:
automatic controls between 15°C and 25°C
long-term durability due to metal chambers
optimum temperature control with fast recovery after door opening thanks to a quiet, internal fan
minimum/maximum temperature memory
visual and audible alarms
larger models benefit from factory-fitted, lockable wheels
large range of glazed or solid door models, depending on the capacity required
All CRT medicine storage cabinets also come with a 5-year warranty and are CE-certified.
CD - CRT Cabinets
Again, our CD-CRT cabinets are specifically designed and manufactured to store controlled drugs below 25°C, with added temperature control.
Making sure CRT conditions are met to ensure drugs remain efficient, our CD-CRT cabinets fully comply with current legislation – Misuse of Drugs (Safe Custody) Regulations 1973 – and with BS2881: 1989 (Security Level One) Specification for Cupboards for the Storage of Medicines in Health Care Premises, and BS3621 anti-pick & drill, key retaining 5-pin cylinder lock.
As the only UK provider of CRT temperature storage solutions for controlled drugs, four sizes are available – from 27 to 196 litres – and our systems benefit from:
digital display controller
minimum/maximum temperature memory and alarms
adjustable shelves
fixing bolts, for it to be fixed to a solid wall
environmentally-friendly refrigerants
CE-certification with a 1-year warrant
MED-CRT Cabinets
Designed as a space-saving alternative to free-standing CRT cabinets, MED-CRT cabinets are traditionally wall mounted. As above, this particular cabinet is also compliant with current legislation and is fitted with a digital controller best-suited for use in a pharmacy, with alarms and remote alarm contacts.
The cooling system correctly monitors, controls and maintains temperatures inside the cabinet to below 25°C, and there are four sizes available, ranging from 144 litres to 240 litres capacity - with the option of an enclosed inner controlled drugs cabinet, with a capacity of either 17 or 24 litres.
Other features include:
1.2mm thick, cold-reduced mild steel sheet used in the manufacture with welded cabinet construction
anti-jimmy folded-return down the full length of the hinge-side of the door to prevent unauthorised access
door reinforcing pressing to lock fixing
fully adjustable shelving
supplied fully assembled
In addition to our cabinets, we also have a number of other products that all aid the controlled temperature of a medical environment:
Wire-free Monitoring System
This is an adaptable solution that monitors/records temperature and humidity for all types of refrigerators, freezers and ovens. Simple to install and set up, the wire-free monitoring system provides monitoring 365/24/7 and is accurate to within +/- 0.3°C.
The accompanying probes can measure between -250°C and + 1100°C with a range of up to 800 metres, dependent on the probe type, and further probes can be added to the system at any time, should they be required.
PR Pharmacy Refrigerators
Medicines and vaccines can be stored between +2°C and +8°C in this stable, refrigerated storage unit – making it a pharmaceutical-grade solution. The refrigerators offer:
digital display controller
minimum/maximum temperature alarms
power failure and door open alarms
simulated core load temperature logger
They also come with a 5 year warranty
Lead-lined Fridge Enclosures
QED’s lead-lined fridge enclosures are the ideal solution when storing nuclear and radiopharmaceuticals. Housing the standard-sized pharmacy fridges or our CRT cabinets, the lead-lined fridge enclosures are manufactured in various levels of shielding – between 3mm and 50mm thick.
Featuring a stainless-steel internal finish together with a fan for venting and an internal power socket, our lead-lined fridge enclosures also include a 1-year warranty and a handy flat-pack design for easy installation on-site.
