Platelets
Platelets are required for transfusion into patients who need them to aid with blood clotting, as a result of illness or injury, which can be fatal if not treated.
The process of donating platelets generally takes around 3 hours. Both arms are used, as blood is drawn from one arm, with a centrifuge separating out the platelets, and the remaining components returned through the other arm.
It’s extremely important that the platelets are stored safely and at room temperature - 22°C – and the best way to do this is with a platelet incubator and/or platelet agitator.

Platelet incubator
There are three sizes of incubator available – one benchtop and two free-standing. The benefits include:
· 7-inch touch screen panel and SMART controller with temperature graph display, allowing easy control of all parameters
· Operational temperature with stability of +/- 15° at 22°C
· Visual and audible alarms for a number of functions, including loss of power, door open, probe fault, and temperature excursions
· Connectivity to Wi-Fi, USB, ethernet, and SD card as all data is downloadable and automatically captured for record-keeping and proof of storage conditions
· Benchtop version stores up to 96 x 450ml bags, with one of the floor-standing versions housing up to 340 x 450ml bags, and the second up to 680 x 450ml bags

Floor-standing platelet incubators can accommodate multiple agitators, which increases capacity. All certified medical devices under CEE directive 93/42, and platelet incubators and platelet agitators, can be supplied separately if required.
Platelet agitator
There are five different models of platelet agitator available, accommodating from 48 to 180 platelet bags, with smooth, silent, and reliable motion. Features include:
· Side-to-side motion with movement of 16mm
· Stainless steel shelves allow optimal airflow over the platelet bags
· Fully removable shelves are individually extractable to near horizontal position without affecting the agitation process
· Internal motion detection alarm, agitating at a set 116 strokes per minute
· Own power supply
Through the use of specific shelving, multiple agitators can be fitted into the floor-standing models, increasing capacity up to 680 bags.
All platelet incubators and platelet agitators maintain a constant 22°C and have glass viewing doors for easy monitoring.
