Frequently Asked Questions

Are controlled room temperature cabinets cheaper and more reliable than air conditioning?

The WHO (World Health Organisation) advises that medicines designed to be stored at room temperature should be kept within a range of 15-25°C to ensure their efficacy.

Most rooms in the UK fit within these parameters but factors like windows, room layout, and central heating can easily bring this average temperature up or down without us noticing – resulting in medical wastage.

For this reason, controlled room temperature cabinets are the preferred option for many, because they are not only more reliable and precise but are also more economical than air conditioning – which is increasingly expensive to fit and run.

Can I get controlled room temperature cabinets for controlled drugs (CD)?

Some medications require more careful management than others because they are more addictive or harmful.

These Controlled Drugs (CDs) need to be kept securely locked with limited access and clear paperwork to track the changes to medicine totals.

Some of these controlled drugs also need to be temperature-controlled, leading to the requirement for a CRT storage cabinet that is lockable and suitable for CDs.

Our CRT CD medicine cabinets conform to BS 2881: 1989 and have locks that conform to BS 3621 – meeting or surpassing the requirements of the Misuse of Drugs (Safe Custody) Regulations 1973.

All CD cabinets must be secured to a wall using an appropriate fixing method – expanding bolts are most usual. All of the fixings can only be accessed by getting inside the cabinet so that access to unauthorised persons is virtually impossible.

Temperature controlled CD cupboards are available in a choice of capacities ranging from 27 litres to 240 litres. Bespoke sizes can often be manufactured when essential. All CD-CRT cabinets can maintain a storage temperature below 25C in a warm room.
